Thanks Awakened 07 - I enjoyed reading that. I agree, and find the itch illustration helpful in my personal development from religion to... simply being me.
- Can theists just as well behave like God since they say we came from God?
Indeed. Control.

How Would You Respond to This?
by Mrs. Witness ini saw a hysterical far side comic yesterday at the dentist's office.
it was the blob family.
daddy blob was looking out the window at two nicely dressed people walking towards their house.

I'd suggest that's not something worth responding to. Cartoon strips and semantics are not things which will make a Witness think. They need to want to check things out for themselves, and you won't do anything to create that desire by attacking. Every time you go on the direct offensive, you may only strengthen the mental barriers.
This is only based on advice given to me (here), my experience and thoughts - I am no expert. I have a couple of books I want to read sometime: 'Releasing the Bonds: Empowering People to Think for Themselves' and 'Combating Cult Mind Control: The Number 1 Best-selling Guide to Protection, Rescue and Recovery from Destructive Cults', both by Steven Hassan. -

I'll scan that if you scan this
by cultswatter inhere is an idea, lets list al the literature that we have and also if we are willing to scan it.
we can trade these scans much like hockey cards .
see this could be real fun and a great way to trade scans.

Oh, I see... suddenly I realise there may be a background to the subject of cultswatter's topic of which I was unaware.
So they take legal action against sites/people which display their old literature? I would have thought that with the new system being so close they wouldn't have time to engage in frivolous legal issues with those in Satan's world. B***ards. -

What are you going to teach your children about relgion?
by reneeisorym in) take them to your church and encourage them to learn about other faiths too..
) don't teach them anything about religion..
) encourage atheism..

Number 3 (encourage atheism), and what WTWizard said. My kids won't need supernatural beliefs to have human values; history speaks for itself regarding what religion does. They will, of course, be free to think about it for themselves, but they will not be ignorant in the same way I was.

The internet = free flow of information, even to those who may not presently have much. It's really rather good the way it is. :)

And the funny thing is, Genesis is clearly talking about literal days so the WTS attempt at keeping in sight of science is only of use to people who will believe what they need to believe anyway.

Even now I still suffer from Demon-phobia at night anyone else?? {Bump??}
by Witness 007 inthings that go bump in the night still force me to get out of bed and check them out even though at 35 i know it's just the house rafters shifting, temperature changes etc...sometimes i wake up to see strange shapes in my room...switch on the light and it's my jacket.
i think the witnesses have conditioned me to believe in demons on a sub-conscious level.
i know they are not real...but i still check.

I can understand that, Witness 007. Our knowledge and behaviour due to conditioning are two very different things. Give yourself time, laugh at yourself if you can, and view it as a challenge.
Eventually you'll be playing Doom 3 whilst filling the room with cries of evil laughter like nobody's business. -

To those still "active", what makes you keep going to meetings?
by Cindi_67 ini've been reading a lot of posts and a lot of you here on the board, are "active" members, attend all meetings and conventions, go out in field service, even help with quick builds.
i don't want this to sound like i am disrespecting anybody, but what makes you lead a double life?
doesn't anybody at the hall notice your lack of interest?

XOCO - if you're not baptised, why are you worried about being shunned and hounded? As you haven't gotten yourself dunked you haven't signed away your human rights yet, so you're still entitled to "change your mind" and make your own decisions. Or is it done differently in the States?
I realise it will still be hard for you, though, of course. All the best, and be true to yourself, however hard that may seem at the time. It saves worse hardships down the line. -

So sad. You can see the seeds of doubt in his son, Jeff, who seems to show a certain level of understanding as to how weird the cult seems to outsiders. But he continues to convince himself his Dad is legitimately Jesus, which reminds me of how we fooled ourselves before about the WTS.
As usual, the cult is made up of people who can't come to terms with the real world being as it is.
He changed the date to the 15th of December, by the way. I wonder what he'll do once 2008 rolls in.
From: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prophecy_of_Seventy_Weeks :
Other interpretations
Some scholars believe that no intelligible specific fulfillment exists. Among these are J.A. Montgomery and Edward Young.
More on the fringes, Michael Travesser[3][4][5], spiritual leader of Strong City sect[6][7], calculated 490 years, or 70 "weeks of years" from 31 October 1517, the publication of Martin Luther's 95 Theses. Thus he predicts the fulfillment of Daniel's prophesy for late 2007.[8] -

DOCUMENTARY: The End of The World Cult
On: Channel 4 (4)
Date: Wednesday 12th December 2007
Time: 22:00 to 23:05 (1 hour and 5 minutes long)
Michael Travesser says he's the Messiah. He claims that 31 October 2007 is Doomsday and at midnight on that date there will be an event of apocalyptic proportions, marking the end of the world. Formerly a sailor called Wayne Bent, Michael is the leader of a cult in New Mexico called Strong City.
(Watch Online, Subtitles)

It's also on an hour later on Channel 4 Plus 1.
I wonder how many parallels there will be with the WTS.
